This Was Hard For Me To Share

You’ve probably heard this before…

The top 5 people you hang around the most will reflect your beliefs, thoughts and actions.

In other words if you hang 5 bank robbers you’ll become the 6th.

If you hang 5 successful people you’ll become the 6th.

I guess why I almost didn’t email you this because it involves some of my family members.

Unfortunately sometimes you can’t control who we hang around with.

Every now and then we will cross paths with someone who drops little seeds into our thought process that makes us second guess our dreams and goals.

In 2008 when I finished my personal training course and started training people from my parents garage.

Eventually I peaked – couldn’t take on anymore clients due to the size of the garage.

I had two options…

Quit what I was doing and find a higher paying job.

Or I could take a big step and move to a larger facility where I could continue to grow my business.

I questioned everything for months and ran the idea by a few family members.

Some of my family didn’t think it was a good idea.

They wanted me to be safe and encouraged me to become a PE teacher because I was good at sports.

But that wasn’t my dream.

I few people did however back me and told me to go for my dream and get a bigger facility.

So I did. Signed the lease and was absolutely over the moon that I did something this big in my life.

I called some family members to let them know.

One of them said:

“Grant, you know you now have to start cleaning two toilets”.

Not congratulations.

Not I’m proud of you.

But a small statement that made me second guess my decision.

What if I can’t uphold the two year lease?

What if fail and lose all my money?

Am I old experienced enough to follow through with this?

These were the thoughts that started to run through my head.

Could you imagine if I didn’t go down the path of my dreams and became a PE teacher?

Things would be very different.

For one, I wouldn’t be emailing you right now.

I wouldn’t have had the opportunity to help all the people I have so far and those in the future.

I guess what I’m trying to say is although family members mean the best for us.

They are going to drop little hints to keep you safe because to achieve your dream / goal usually takes a big risk.

You may want to lose 5 kilos because you’re not confident and happy with the way you look and feel.

They may tell you just to accept it, it’s in your genes and be proud of who you are.

But if you’re not confident and happy, who are they to tell you that you’re doing the wrong thing.

If you have ANYONE that’s planting little seeds in your head to second guess your dreams and goals I encourage and invite you to ignore them and go for it.

Yes it may not be safe.

But safe isn’t going to make or keep you happy.
